Chick Flicks is back this Wednesday 6/17 for Pride Month with two shorts from Kelly Burkhardt, a Philly-based, award-winning filmmaker who has been highlighting LGBTQIA+ stories in the city for almost twenty years.
This event features a special screening of Burkhardt and co-director Kemar Jewel’s newest film, produced by Big Picture Alliance, The Gloria! Project. This film documents the life and legacy of Philly’s late queer Latina civil rights leader Gloria Casarez, from her childhood, to her organizing work in the anti-poverty and HIV/AIDS movements, to her appointment as Philly’s first Director of LGBT Affairs.
We will also be screening Burkhardt’s first film, Tremble & Sparkle, a short fictional film utilizing the noir genre of old films such as The Maltese Falcon and the Big Heat with a lesbian pulp twist, all set in Philadelphia!
AND, stay after the screenings for a Q&A with Kelly Burkhardt herself! Light refreshments provided.
Masks will be provided on site but attendees are encouraged to bring their own. Captions will be included for the viewing. The venue is ADA compliant. Please reach out if you need additional accommodations or have questions about accessibility.
